Director of Communications

The Executive Leadership Council is the preeminent member organization for the development of global Black leaders. Comprising more than 800 current and former corporate Black CEOs, board members and senior executives of Fortune 1000 and Global 500 companies, entrepreneurs leading top-tier firms, and recognized thought leaders, we advocate for increased Black leadership in global corporations and open channels of opportunity for the development of Black executives to positively impact business and communities.

We are currently seeking a Director, Communications to join the Marketing and Communications team in our Washington, DC office. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting and executing the overall internal and external communications strategy, while driving innovative systems and processes that support critical communications initiatives, to include member and event communications, digital/social media and media relations. This position reports to the Vice President/Chief Marketing and Communications Officer and leads the Manager, Communications and Digital and Social Content Manager.


Essential Responsibilities:

· Design, execute, and measure a member communications strategy to engage the organization's network;

· Design and support the overall digital/social media strategy to raise the organization's profile on current and emerging social networking platforms;

· Manage agency and vendor relationships to maximize efficacy of engagements on critical initiatives;

· Liaise with internal stakeholders and external constituents to develop relevant messaging, to include editorial support that activates the member network;

· Oversee day-to-day digital and social media member communication deployments, web platform design and execution;

· Manage event-related communications needs for the organization;

· Develop and oversee a strategic event communications calendar to ensure effective messaging that promotes participation from the organization's network of global Black leaders;

· Write key messages, event talking points, and speeches for members of the executive team;

· Oversee the monitoring and measurement of social media platforms to continuously improve marketing effectiveness;

· Secure speaking engagements for the President & CEO that strategically increase awareness of the organization's mission;

· Proactively pitch media outlets to gain coverage on initiatives aligned with The ELC purpose;

· Build strong relationships with members of the press, leveraging a robust network to drive issue-related coverage for the organization;

· Monitor and measure media relations efforts to continuously improve awareness of The ELC and key message penetration;

· Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to quality improvement;

· Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

· Demonstrated passion for opening channels of opportunity for the development of Black executives.

· Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a related field is required.

· Minimum 6 years of relevant experience with responsibilities in communications, public relations and/or marketing, with digital/social media preferred.

· Experience working with email marketing platforms, content management systems, and audience segmentation, such as Salesforce Pardot, MailChimp and WordPress. Proficient with MS Office Suite.

· Ability to manage multiple high-stake initiatives and multiple stakeholders and priorities, using effective project management skills.

· Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment with short deadlines and navigate organizational change, demonstrating a flexible approach.

· Work effectively and efficiently with all colleagues, to include senior-level executives.

· Experience leading, coaching, and mentoring staff.

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds at times.

· Travel may be required.
